Maricopa County, Arizona to “Ban the Box”
Beginning Jan. 1, 2018, Arizona’s most populous county will remove a question about past criminal convictions from their job applications.
The new policy was approved unanimously by the county’s board of supervisors.
Applicants for jobs with the county will still be subject to a background check after the person has shown that they are qualified for the job.
Previously, Arizona governor Doug Ducey instructed all state agencies to eliminate any questions on initial job applications about whether a person has a criminal record. More information on Arizona’s statewide “Ban the Box” policy can be found here.
