California introduces bill to protect from medical marijuana users from employment discrimination
Assembly Bill 2069 seeks to prohibit an employer from discriminating against employees “on the basis of his or her status as, or positive drug test for cannabis by, a qualified patient or person with an identification card.”
If passed, the bill would affect employers’ ability to enforce zero-tolerance employment drug testing policies and other efforts to maintain a drug-free workplace.
However, the legislation will allow employers to take adverse action against any employee who is under the influence of marijuana while on company property or premises.
